Support Unit

The Angel Fire Fire Department Support Unit is a group of volunteers who dedicate their efforts to the support of local Moreno Valley fire departments, including Village of Angel Fire and the County’s Moreno Valley Fire Department. While they usually don’t actively fight fire, they involve themselves in absolutely every other aspect of fire suppression operations. Many are trained in wildland firefighting techniques and accompany fire crews into the back country to assist with wildland operations

They perform maintenance on MVFD Engines and Tenders, ATVs and small engines. They operate trucks and water tenders, freeing firefighters to perform other duties. Support Unit Members attend every fire and manage rehab stations for firefighters, and yes, they make coffee.

As a qualified 501(c)3 non-profit corporation, the Support Unit is a significant fund raising organization in the Moreno Valley; generating much needed funding for the two Valley Fire Departments. In 2004, the Support Unit was responsible for raising more than $20,000.00 in support of the Village and County fire departments. A portion of that money also went to the village ambulance service, providing much needed training aids.

The Angel Fire Fire Department Support Unit is headed by Charles Wilson, who is also the Moreno Valley’s Fire Chaplain. Anyone interested in dedicating some time to the Angel Fire community by working with the Support Unit should contact Chaplain Wilson for more information.
